Key Responsibilities
- Conduct field visits to assess crop health, soil conditions, and overall farm management practices.
- Provide expert consultation and technical advice to farmers on crop production, fertilization, irrigation, pest and disease control, and sustainable farming techniques.
- Develop and implement customised crop management plans tailored to specific farm needs and environmental conditions.
- Analyse soil samples and plant tissues to identify nutrient deficiencies and recommend appropriate corrective measures.
- Stay abreast of the latest agricultural research, technologies, and best practices, integrating them into farmer recommendations.
- Assist farmers in selecting optimal crop varieties and seeds suitable for local climate and soil types.
- Organise and conduct farmer workshops, field days, and training sessions to disseminate agricultural knowledge and skills.
- Collaborate with internal sales and technical teams to ensure seamless service delivery and product recommendations.
- Maintain detailed records of farm visits, recommendations, and outcomes to track progress and refine strategies.
- Identify and explore new business opportunities and foster strong client relationships within the agricultural community.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Soil Science, or a related agricultural field.
- Minimum 3 years of practical experience as an Agronomist or in a similar agricultural advisory role.
- In-depth knowledge of crop production cycles, soil mechanics, plant nutrition, and integrated pest management.
- Proven ability to conduct field assessments and provide practical, actionable advice to farmers.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively within the Ottosdal and surrounding North West regions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Agronomy or a related field.
- Experience with precision agriculture technologies (e.g., GPS, GIS, remote sensing).
- Familiarity with the specific agricultural challenges and opportunities in the North West province.
- Membership in a relevant professional agricultural body.
- Proficiency in Afrikaans and/or Setswana will be an added advantage.
