Job Description

National Foods Limited is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Agro-Processing Plant Operator to join our dynamic production team in Harare. This pivotal role involves the safe and efficient operation of various machinery and equipment within our agro-processing facility. As a Plant Operator, you will be responsible for ensuring that all production processes run smoothly, adhering strictly to quality control standards, safety protocols, and operational guidelines. You will monitor equipment performance, conduct routine maintenance checks, and identify and troubleshoot minor operational issues to minimize downtime and maximize productivity.

This position requires a keen eye for detail, a strong understanding of mechanical processes, and a proactive approach to maintaining a high-quality output. You will work closely with other team members, supervisors, and quality control personnel to ensure that all products meet National Foods Limited’s stringent specifications. A commitment to workplace safety, good manufacturing practices (GMP), and hygiene standards is paramount. The ideal candidate will be physically fit, able to work in a fast-paced environment, and possess the ability to adapt to changing production demands. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor various agro-processing machinery and equipment, including mills, mixers, extruders, dryers, and packaging lines, according to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Conduct regular inspections and preventative maintenance checks on equipment to ensure optimal performance, reporting any faults or malfunctions promptly.
  • Monitor production parameters, including temperature, pressure, and flow rates, making necessary adjustments to maintain product quality and efficiency.
  • Perform routine quality control checks on raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods, ensuring adherence to company and regulatory standards.
  • Strictly adhere to all health, safety, and environmental regulations, including GMP and HACCP principles, maintaining a clean and organized work area.
  • Record and document production data, equipment performance logs, and quality control reports accurately.
  • Troubleshoot minor operational issues and mechanical problems, escalating complex issues to maintenance or supervisory staff.
  • Assist in the loading and unloading of raw materials and the storage of finished products.
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions to enhance operational knowledge and safety awareness.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 2 years) in operating industrial machinery, preferably within an agro-processing, food manufacturing, or heavy industrial environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and basic understanding of electrical systems for troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, safety instructions, and production schedules.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a strong commitment to producing high-quality products.
  • Thorough understanding of safety protocols, hygiene standards (GMP), and quality control procedures (HACCP).
  • Basic computer literacy for data entry and monitoring systems.
  • Physical fitness and ability to lift heavy objects, stand for extended periods, and work in various environmental conditions.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • National Certificate or Diploma in Food Processing Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related technical field.
  • Previous experience with specific grain processing equipment (e.g., maize mills, flour mills, stockfeed lines).
  • Forklift operator certification or other relevant heavy equipment licenses.
  • First Aid and/or Fire Safety certification.
