Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Agricultural Mechanic to join our dynamic team at our Greytown branch. As an Agricultural Mechanic, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of sophisticated farm machinery and equipment, including tractors, combine harvesters, planters, sprayers, and other implements. Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on a variety of agricultural equipment, including engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and GPS technology.
- Conduct routine maintenance, preventative service, and pre-season inspections to ensure optimal equipment performance and longevity.
- Utilize specialized diagnostic tools and software to identify and resolve complex mechanical and electrical issues.
- Assemble and prepare new equipment for delivery, ensuring all components are correctly installed and operational.
- Maintain accurate service records, documenting all repairs, parts used, and service hours.
- Provide technical support and guidance to customers, explaining repairs and maintenance procedures clearly and professionally.
- Adhere strictly to safety regulations and company policies, ensuring a safe working environment.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay abreast of new technologies and equipment advancements.
- Work effectively as part of a team, collaborating with parts department, sales, and other service technicians.
- Manage service calls efficiently, including occasional field service at customer locations.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as an Agricultural Mechanic or Heavy Equipment Mechanic
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities for mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
- Proficiency in reading technical manuals and schematics
- Competence in using specialized diagnostic software and tools
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Valid driver's license (Code 8 or higher)
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Physical fitness and ability to lift heavy objects and work in various weather conditions
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal qualification in Agricultural Mechanization, Diesel Mechanics, or a related field (e.g., NQF Level 3 or higher)
- Experience with John Deere equipment and diagnostic tools (e.g., Service ADVISOR)
- Familiarity with precision agriculture technologies (GPS, auto-steer, yield mapping)
- Welding and fabrication skills
- Experience in a dealership environment
