AFGRI Retail in Nylstroom (Modimolle), Limpopo, is seeking a dedicated Agricultural Machinery Mechanic to join our dynamic team. This pivotal role involves the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of a diverse range of farm equipment, including tractors, harvesters, planters, sprayers, and other implements crucial to modern farming operations. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and preventative services on a wide range of agricultural machinery and equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults using specialised diagnostic tools and technical manuals.
- Execute timely and effective repairs, including engine overhauls, transmission work, and hydraulic system adjustments.
- Conduct field service and emergency repairs on farms, ensuring minimal disruption to farming operations.
- Order and manage parts necessary for repairs and maintenance, ensuring efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Maintain accurate service records and documentation of all repairs, parts used, and hours worked.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and company policies to ensure a safe working environment.
- Provide technical advice and support to customers regarding machine operation and basic maintenance.
- Continuously update knowledge of new machinery models, technologies, and repair techniques.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, sales staff, and customers to ensure high levels of service satisfaction.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as an Agricultural Machinery Mechanic or similar heavy equipment mechanic role.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical manuals, schematics, and service bulletins.
- Ability to operate and test agricultural machinery safely.
- Competency in using a variety of hand and power tools, as well as specialised diagnostic equipment.
- Valid Code 08 (B) driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Physical ability to perform demanding tasks, including lifting heavy components and working in various weather conditions.
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to protocols.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant Trade Test Certificate (e.g., Agricultural Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic).
- Experience with specific agricultural machinery brands (e.g., John Deere, Case IH, New Holland, Massey Ferguson).
- Knowledge of precision farming technology and GPS systems.
- Computer literacy for diagnostic software and record-keeping.
