Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Agricultural Machine Mechanic to join our dedicated team in Bothitong, Northern Cape. This pivotal role involves the comprehensive diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of a diverse range of agricultural machinery and equipment, crucial for ensuring the uninterrupted operation of farming activities in the region. The successful candidate will be responsible for servicing tractors, combines, planters, sprayers, and various other implements from leading brands. Your expertise will be vital in minimizing downtime, optimizing machine performance, and extending the lifespan of critical agricultural assets. This position demands a keen eye for detail, exceptional problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to work independently in often challenging rural environments. You will be expected to perform both workshop-based repairs and on-site field service, requiring flexibility and a proactive approach to resolving mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues. Key Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostic assessments to identify mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical malfunctions in agricultural machinery.
- Execute repairs and scheduled preventative maintenance on a wide array of farm equipment, including tractors, harvesters, planters, and implements.
- Conduct field service and emergency repairs at various farm locations within the Bothitong area and surrounding regions, often requiring travel.
- Utilize specialized diagnostic tools and equipment effectively to troubleshoot complex issues.
- Maintain accurate service records, including parts used, labor hours, and fault descriptions.
- Adhere strictly to safety protocols and environmental regulations in all maintenance and repair activities.
- Provide technical guidance and support to farmers on proper equipment operation and basic maintenance procedures.
- Order and manage spare parts efficiently to ensure timely repairs.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with new technologies and machinery models.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as an Agricultural Machine Mechanic with heavy machinery.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and powertrains.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic software and tools specific to agricultural equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
- Valid Code 8 (B) driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with farmers and team members.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Welding and fabrication skills (ARC, MIG).
Preferred Qualifications
- Recognized Trade Certificate as a Diesel Mechanic, Agricultural Equipment Mechanic, or equivalent.
- Experience with major agricultural machinery brands such as John Deere, Case IH, Massey Ferguson, or New Holland.
- Advanced diagnostic training certifications.
- Experience with GPS guidance systems and precision agriculture technology.
