Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Agricultural Field Supervisor to join our dedicated team in Pongola, KwaZulu-Natal. This pivotal role involves the direct oversight and management of daily farming operations across designated agricultural fields, ensuring optimal productivity, quality, and adherence to best practices. The Agricultural Field Supervisor will be responsible for leading and mentoring field teams, implementing cutting-edge crop management strategies, monitoring crop health with precision, and ensuring efficient resource utilization across all farm activities. You will play a crucial role in the meticulous planning, seamless execution, and vigilant supervision of planting, cultivation, irrigation, pest control, and harvesting activities, primarily focusing on high-value local crops such as sugar cane and citrus that are vital to the region’s economy. Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate daily field operations, including planting, cultivation, irrigation, fertilization, pest and disease control, and harvesting.
  • Lead, train, and manage field teams, ensuring high standards of work quality, safety, and productivity.
  • Monitor crop health and growth, identify potential issues, and implement timely corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate records of field activities, inputs, yields, and labor hours.
  • Operate and oversee the maintenance of agricultural machinery and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Implement and enforce quality control standards for all agricultural produce.
  • Collaborate with senior management and agronomists to develop and refine crop management plans and strategies.
  • Prepare regular reports on field performance, budget adherence, and operational challenges.
  • Manage inventory of agricultural supplies and ensure timely procurement.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in agricultural field supervision or a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of crop production cycles, soil health, irrigation systems, and integrated pest management.
  • Demonstrated leadership and effective team management abilities, with a focus on motivation and performance.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make informed, data-driven decisions under pressure.
  • Proficiency in detailed record-keeping and familiarity with basic agricultural management software.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A National Diploma or Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Crop Science, or a closely related field.
  • Direct experience with sugar cane and citrus cultivation specifically in the KwaZulu-Natal region.
  • Familiarity with precision agriculture technologies and sustainable farming practices.
  • Knowledge of local agricultural regulations, industry standards, and best practices.
  • Relevant certifications in First Aid, pesticide application, or agricultural safety.
