Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Agricultural Extension Officer to join our dynamic team in Tokyo, serving the broader agricultural communities across Japan. This critical role involves acting as a vital link between agricultural research, government policies, and the farming community, ensuring that farmers have access to the latest knowledge, technologies, and best practices. The Agricultural Extension Officer will be instrumental in improving agricultural productivity, promoting sustainable farming methods, and enhancing the livelihoods of farmers. You will spend your time directly engaging with farmers through on-site visits, organizing and conducting educational workshops, and providing personalized technical assistance on a wide range of topics. These topics include comprehensive crop management (from planting to harvest), soil health improvement, effective pest and disease control strategies, efficient animal husbandry, advanced irrigation techniques, and best practices for post-harvest handling and storage. Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert agricultural advice and technical assistance to farmers on crop cultivation, livestock management, and farm operations.
- Organize and conduct workshops, training sessions, and field demonstrations for farmers on new technologies and best practices.
- Introduce and promote sustainable farming methods, including organic farming, precision agriculture, and conservation techniques.
- Assist farmers with farm management, business planning, record-keeping, and accessing market opportunities.
- Monitor crop and livestock health, diagnose problems (pests, diseases), and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Facilitate access to agricultural inputs, credit, subsidies, and government support programs for farmers.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret agricultural data to identify trends, challenges, and opportunities.
- Prepare comprehensive reports on extension activities, farmer progress, and agricultural development initiatives.
- Act as a liaison between farmers, agricultural research institutions, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Support the implementation of agricultural policies and programs at the local level.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, Animal Science, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Japanese language (N1 or N2 level, both verbal and written) to effectively communicate with farmers and stakeholders.
- Valid Japanese driving license (for field visits).
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities applied to agricultural challenges.
- In-depth knowledge of Japanese agricultural practices, crops, livestock, and relevant regulations.
- Ability to work independently in rural settings and as part of a collaborative team.
