Piketberg Agri is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Agri-equipment Mechanic to join our dynamic team, specializing in remote diagnostics and technical support. Key Responsibilities
- Perform advanced remote diagnostics and troubleshooting of complex mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults in a wide range of agricultural machinery using digital tools.
- Provide expert technical guidance and practical support to on-site technicians, farmers, and operational staff for effective repairs, adjustments, and preventive maintenance via virtual channels.
- Interpret detailed technical manuals, schematics, and real-time diagnostic data to accurately identify root causes of equipment malfunctions.
- Coordinate the procurement and timely delivery of necessary spare parts, ensuring efficient logistics to minimize operational delays for clients.
- Develop and recommend customized preventive maintenance schedules and best practices to clients to optimize equipment longevity, efficiency, and overall performance.
- Maintain accurate and detailed service records, comprehensive diagnostic reports, and parts utilization logs within our digital management systems.
- Conduct virtual training sessions for clients on new equipment operation, advanced troubleshooting techniques, and essential maintenance procedures.
- Stay continuously updated with the latest advancements in agricultural machinery technology, diagnostic software, and industry-best repair methods.
- Collaborate proactively with sales and technical teams to address customer concerns, provide solutions, and continuously improve service delivery standards.
- Undertake occasional, pre-planned site visits for highly complex repairs, new equipment installations, or advanced diagnostics when remote resolution is not feasible.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing a wide range of agricultural equipment (e.g., tractors, harvesters, planters, sprayers, irrigation systems).
- Strong understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic systems prevalent in modern heavy agricultural machinery.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective remote support, clear explanations, and detailed documentation.
- Proficiency in using specialized diagnostic software, computer-aided troubleshooting tools, and telematics systems.
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities, critical thinking, and a methodical approach to fault finding.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks efficiently, and manage time effectively in a self-directed remote setting.
- Valid South African driver's license (Code B or higher) for potential occasional, pre-planned work-related travel.
- High level of computer literacy and comfort with various communication and collaboration platforms (e.g., video conferencing, CRM tools).
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant NQF Level 4/5 trade certificate or diploma in Agricultural Mechanization, Diesel Mechanics, Heavy Equipment Mechanics, or a related engineering field.
- Demonstrated experience with specific leading agricultural equipment brands such as John Deere, Case IH, Massey Ferguson, New Holland, or Challenger.
- Familiarity with advanced telematics systems and remote monitoring technologies used in precision agriculture.
- Bilingual proficiency in Afrikaans and English is highly advantageous given the regional context of our client base.
- Previous experience in a remote technical support, field service coordination, or advanced diagnostics role.
