Job Description

Mississippi College invites applications for an enthusiastic and dedicated Admissions Counselor to join our dynamic team. As an integral part of our enrollment management division, you will be on the front lines, engaging with prospective students and their families, showcasing the unique opportunities that Mississippi College offers, and ultimately helping them envision their future as a Choctaw.

In this pivotal role, you will serve as a primary contact for prospective students from designated territories, building meaningful relationships and providing comprehensive information about our academic programs, campus life, and the admissions process. Your daily activities will involve a blend of direct outreach, including extensive travel to high schools and college fairs, hosting campus visits, conducting compelling presentations, and meticulously following up with inquiries via phone, email, and virtual platforms. You’ll become an expert on Mississippi College’s distinct offerings, from our diverse range of majors to our vibrant student organizations and our commitment to service.

Beyond recruitment, you will play a crucial advisory role, assisting applicants with completing the admissions and financial aid processes, ensuring a smooth and supportive transition to college life. This position demands a proactive individual with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of connecting with diverse audiences and articulating the transformative power of a Mississippi College education. You will work closely with other admissions staff, academic departments, and student services to create a seamless experience for potential students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Recruit prospective undergraduate students from assigned territories, building and maintaining strong relationships with high school counselors, students, and their families.
  • Conduct informative and engaging presentations about Mississippi College's programs, campus life, and admissions requirements at high schools, college fairs, and other recruitment events.
  • Manage a caseload of inquiries and applicants, providing personalized guidance through the admissions and financial aid processes.
  • Organize and lead campus tours and information sessions for prospective students and their families.
  • Represent Mississippi College professionally at various on-campus and off-campus recruitment events, often requiring evening and weekend work.
  • Effectively utilize CRM systems to track interactions, manage data, and communicate with prospective students.
  • Collaborate with other admissions staff, academic departments, and student services to ensure a seamless recruitment and enrollment experience.
  • Assist with the review and processing of applications, ensuring accuracy and timely completion.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training to stay current with admissions best practices and institutional updates.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex information clearly and persuasively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with diverse populations, including students, parents, and high school personnel.
  • Demonstrated public speaking and presentation abilities.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to travel extensively as required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a goal-oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Higher Education, Counseling, or a related field.
  • One to three years of experience in college admissions, recruitment, or a related higher education role.
  • Familiarity with CRM systems used in higher education (e.g., Slate, Salesforce).
  • Knowledge of Mississippi College's mission, programs, and campus culture.
  • Bilingual abilities (especially Spanish) are a plus.
