This is a pivotal role within Aviva, offering the opportunity to apply your expertise to complex financial challenges and contribute directly to our strategic objectives. As an Actuary, you will be instrumental in ensuring the financial soundness of our life insurance and pension products, developing new offerings, and managing risk effectively. You will engage with various business units, providing critical actuarial insights that inform decision-making, from product pricing and reserving to capital management and regulatory compliance. We value collaboration, innovation, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. This role offers excellent opportunities for professional growth within a supportive and forward-thinking environment, where your contributions are recognized and rewarded. If you are a qualified or nearly qualified actuary with a passion for driving financial excellence and making a tangible impact, we encourage you to apply and help us shape the future of insurance and pensions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed actuarial valuations, reserving, and capital calculations for Life & Pensions products, ensuring compliance with Solvency II and other regulatory standards.
  • Develop, review, and implement actuarial models, methodologies, and assumptions for product pricing, risk assessment, and financial reporting.
  • Contribute to the design and development of new life insurance and pension products, providing expert actuarial input on product features, profitability, and risk profile.
  • Conduct experience analysis (mortality, morbidity, persistency) to inform assumption setting and enhance business understanding.
  • Prepare comprehensive actuarial reports and presentations for internal stakeholders, senior management, and external regulators, clearly communicating complex concepts.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with finance, risk, product development, and IT teams to deliver integrated solutions and support strategic initiatives.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior actuarial staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
  • Participate in ad-hoc projects, including M&A due diligence, stress testing, and other strategic initiatives as required.

Required Skills

  • Qualified Actuary (FIA/FFA) or significantly advanced in actuarial exams (e.g., nearly qualified with only a few exams remaining).
  • Minimum of 4 years of post-qualification experience in a life insurance or pensions actuarial role.
  • Strong understanding of actuarial principles, financial mathematics, and UK regulatory frameworks, including Solvency II.
  • Proficiency in actuarial modeling software (e.g., Prophet, MoSes, Igloo) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and quantitative reasoning abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex actuarial concepts clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with IFRS 17 implementation projects.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, R, or VBA for data analysis and automation.
  • Prior experience working on pensions de-risking solutions or bulk annuity transactions.
  • Project management experience within an actuarial or financial services context.
  • Master's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.

Perks & Benefits

  • Competitive base salary and annual performance bonus.
  • Generous pension scheme with employer contributions.
  • 29 days annual leave, plus bank holidays, with the option to buy/sell up to 5 additional days.
  • Private medical insurance and comprehensive wellness programs.
  • Flexible working options, including a hybrid work model (3 days in office, 2 days remote).
  • Extensive learning and development opportunities, including support for further professional qualifications.
  • Employee discounts on Aviva products and services.
  • Access to a wide range of corporate benefits, including gym memberships, retail discounts, and cycle-to-work schemes.
