Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, in accordance with IFRS/GAAP.
- Conduct month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Assist with the preparation and submission of various tax returns (VAT, Income Tax, PAYE) and ensure compliance with local tax regulations.
- Maintain general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and integrity of financial data.
- Collaborate with auditors during annual financial audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to clients based on analysis of financial data.
- Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to improve efficiency and internal controls.
- Utilize accounting software and tools effectively to streamline processes and generate reports.
- Communicate effectively with clients and internal teams, explaining complex financial information clearly and concisely.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- SAIPA or SAICA articles completed or similar professional accreditation
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in an accounting role
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, Pastel)
- Strong understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a remote setting
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
Preferred Qualifications
- Postgraduate qualification in Accounting or Taxation
