Job Description

Standard Bank Mozambique is seeking a highly skilled, proactive, and dynamic Public Relations (PR) Officer to elevate our brand presence and reputation in a fast-paced and evolving market. Based in our bustling Maputo office, this pivotal role within our Marketing and Communications team is critical to safeguarding and enhancing the bank’s public image and fostering robust relationships with key stakeholders. The PR Officer will be instrumental in crafting and executing strategic communication plans that align with our business objectives, ensuring consistent, positive brand messaging across all media channels. This role demands a seasoned professional capable of managing media inquiries with finesse, proactively identifying opportunities for positive media coverage, and drafting compelling content that resonates with diverse audiences. From developing impactful press releases and media kits to coordinating high-profile events and navigating potential reputational challenges, you will be at the forefront of our external communications efforts. The ideal candidate will possess an innate ability to articulate complex financial concepts clearly, maintain a strong network of media contacts, and thrive in an environment where strategic thinking and meticulous execution are paramount. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced PR professional to contribute significantly to a respected financial institution, shaping public perception and driving meaningful engagement within the Mozambican market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive public relations strategies aligned with the bank's business objectives and overall brand strategy.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong, positive relationships with key media contacts, journalists, and influencers across various Mozambican media platforms.
  • Draft, edit, and distribute compelling press releases, media advisories, corporate statements, speeches, and other PR materials.
  • Manage media inquiries, interview requests, and serve as a primary spokesperson or facilitate interviews with senior management.
  • Monitor media coverage of the bank, industry trends, and competitor activities, providing regular reports and insightful analysis.
  • Assist in crisis communication planning and execution, providing rapid and effective responses to safeguard the bank's reputation.
  • Support the planning and execution of corporate events, product launches, community engagement initiatives, and sponsorships.
  • Collaborate with internal marketing, digital, and internal communications teams to ensure integrated messaging and campaigns.
  • Identify opportunities for thought leadership and secure media placements for expert commentary from the bank’s leadership.
  • Oversee the communication strategies for the bank's corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives and community investments.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in public relations, corporate communications, or media relations, preferably within the financial services sector.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in both Portuguese and English.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong, productive media relationships.
  • Strong understanding of the Mozambican media landscape, including traditional and digital channels, and news cycles.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in media monitoring and analysis tools, as well as general office software (MS Office Suite).
  • Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving abilities, sound judgment, and a proactive approach.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion, especially when handling sensitive information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Experience working with regulatory bodies or in a highly regulated industry.
  • Established network of media contacts within Mozambique's financial and business sectors.
  • Demonstrable experience in crisis communication planning and execution.
  • Knowledge of digital PR strategies, social media management for corporate entities, and content marketing principles.
