Job Description
This role calls for a dedicated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to champion safety within a dynamic industrial estate in Karu, Abuja. As a critical member of our client’s operational team, you will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive health and safety programs designed to protect personnel, assets, and the environment. Your expertise will ensure strict compliance with all local, national, and international H&S regulations, fostering a proactive safety culture that permeates all levels of the organization.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures in line with national and international standards.
- Conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Organize and deliver H&S training programs for all employees, ensuring awareness and understanding of safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Ensure strict adherence to all relevant local and national environmental, health, and safety legislation and industry best practices.
- Maintain accurate records of H&S incidents, training, inspections, and compliance efforts.
- Prepare and submit periodic H&S performance reports to management, highlighting trends and recommending areas for improvement.
- Lead emergency response planning and drills, coordinating with external agencies as necessary.
- Advise management on safety-related capital expenditures and operational improvements.
- Promote a strong safety culture across the industrial estate through continuous communication and engagement.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Nigerian H&S regulations and international standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
- Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard identification.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
- Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certification such as NEBOSH IGC, ISPON, or equivalent.
- Bachelor's degree or HND in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
- First Aid/CPR certification.
