Job Description

Career.supersecrets is actively recruiting a highly experienced and dedicated Health & Safety Officer to join a prominent industrial estate in Bwari, Abuja. This professional role is critical for ensuring a safe, healthy, and environmentally sound working environment across diverse operations within the estate. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring robust health and safety policies and procedures, ensuring full compliance with national and international standards, and fostering a proactive safety culture among all stakeholders.

As a Health & Safety Officer, you will serve as the primary point of contact for all occupational health, safety, and environmental (OHSE) matters within the industrial estate. This involves conducting regular risk assessments, performing site inspections, investigating incidents, and developing corrective actions to prevent recurrence. You will be instrumental in designing and delivering comprehensive safety training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors, covering topics such as hazard identification, emergency response, and safe work practices specific to an industrial setting. Your expertise will be vital in managing the estate’s safety management system, ensuring its continuous improvement and effectiveness.

This position demands a professional with a keen eye for detail, exceptional problem-solving abilities, and a proven track record in industrial safety management. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the industrial estate's Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) management system.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, determine root causes, and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
  • Design and deliver comprehensive HSE training programs for all employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed safety documentation, reports, and records.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant local and national HSE legislation, including OSHA and specific industrial safety standards.
  • Lead emergency response planning, drills, and coordination efforts.
  • Monitor and report on key HSE performance indicators, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Advise management on health and safety matters, risk mitigation strategies, and best practices.
  • Promote a positive safety culture through continuous communication and engagement initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in Nigerian HSE regulations and industrial safety standards.
  • Strong knowledge of risk assessment methodologies and hazard control.
  • Experience with incident investigation and root cause analysis.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to conduct effective safety training sessions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated leadership and team collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent.
  • Membership in a recognized professional safety body (e.g., IOSH, ISPON).
  • Experience in environmental management within an industrial context.
  • Knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards.
  • First Aid and Fire Safety certifications.
