Kier Group is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Mason’s Assistant to join our dynamic team in Birmingham. As a Mason’s Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting our qualified masons on various construction sites, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently, safely, and to the highest standards. This hands-on role offers invaluable on-the-job training and a clear pathway for professional development within the construction industry. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist skilled masons with all aspects of bricklaying and blocklaying tasks.
  • Prepare work areas, including setting up scaffolding, mixing mortar, and ensuring materials are readily available.
  • Handle and transport bricks, blocks, and other building materials safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work environment, adhering strictly to all health and safety regulations.
  • Operate basic hand tools and power tools under direct supervision.
  • Support with the loading and unloading of deliveries, ensuring accurate material counts.
  • Learn and apply various masonry techniques, material properties, and construction best practices.
  • Actively participate in site briefings, safety meetings, and training sessions.
  • Assist in site setup, clear-down, and general labouring duties as required.

Required Skills

  • Physical fitness and stamina to perform manual labour.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Strong commitment to health and safety procedures.
  • Reliable, punctual, and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Enthusiasm for learning a new trade and developing new skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Valid CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) Card.
  • Previous experience working on a construction site, even in a general labouring capacity.
  • Basic understanding of masonry tools and equipment.
  • Full UK driving licence.
