Career.supersecrets is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to lead and manage all aspects of occupational health, safety, and environmental compliance within a bustling industrial estate in Abuja. This professional role is critical in ensuring a safe, healthy, and environmentally sound workplace for all tenants, visitors, and contractors operating within the estate. You will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring robust HSEQ management systems, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring strict adherence to national and international safety standards. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of industrial safety protocols, strong analytical skills, and the ability to influence positive safety culture across diverse operational teams. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies, procedures, and programs in alignment with local regulations and international best practices.
- Conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits across the industrial estate to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to management, tenants, and contractors on all HSE matters, fostering a proactive safety culture.
- Organize and deliver safety training sessions and awareness programs for staff and estate occupants on topics such as emergency preparedness, fire safety, chemical handling, and first aid.
- Monitor and report on HSE performance metrics, preparing regular reports for management and regulatory bodies.
- Ensure appropriate emergency response plans are in place, regularly tested, and communicated effectively to all relevant parties.
- Manage waste disposal procedures, environmental compliance, and promote sustainable practices within the industrial estate.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Nigerian HSE regulations and relevant international standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
- Strong risk assessment and incident investigation skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Valid professional certification in Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH IGC, ISPON).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Safety Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- Certification in First Aid and Fire Safety.
- Experience with HSE management systems implementation and auditing.
