As an Entry-Level Project Estimator, you will be immersed in the crucial process of determining project costs, a foundational skill set for any aspiring project professional. You will gain hands-on experience in analysing blueprints, specifications, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive cost estimates. This role is perfect for someone with a keen eye for detail, strong analytical capabilities, and a genuine interest in the built environment. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, and suppliers, developing a holistic understanding of project lifecycles and the economic factors that drive them. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior estimators in preparing detailed cost estimates for various construction and engineering projects.
  • Review project blueprints, specifications, and other documentation to understand project scope and requirements.
  • Gather and analyse data on materials, labour, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
  • Support the preparation of tender submissions and bids, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Communicate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain quotes and negotiate favourable pricing.
  • Maintain and update a database of costs, materials, and labour rates.
  • Learn and utilise estimating software and tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Participate in project review meetings and contribute to discussions on cost-saving opportunities.
  • Assist in conducting site visits to gather information and assess project conditions when required.
  • Document and archive all estimation-related data and correspondence for future reference.

Required Skills

  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications (or willingness to learn rapidly).
  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proactive and eager to learn attitude.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree or HND in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Some exposure to the construction or engineering industry through internships or academic projects.
  • Familiarity with estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Causeway, Candy) or CAD software is a plus but not essential.
  • Understanding of basic construction principles and processes.
