Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior estimators in preparing detailed cost estimates for various construction and engineering projects.
- Review project blueprints, specifications, and other documentation to understand project scope and requirements.
- Gather and analyse data on materials, labour, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Support the preparation of tender submissions and bids, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Communicate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain quotes and negotiate favourable pricing.
- Maintain and update a database of costs, materials, and labour rates.
- Learn and utilise estimating software and tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Participate in project review meetings and contribute to discussions on cost-saving opportunities.
- Assist in conducting site visits to gather information and assess project conditions when required.
- Document and archive all estimation-related data and correspondence for future reference.
Required Skills
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications (or willingness to learn rapidly).
- Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Proactive and eager to learn attitude.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree or HND in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or a related field.
- Some exposure to the construction or engineering industry through internships or academic projects.
- Familiarity with estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Causeway, Candy) or CAD software is a plus but not essential.
- Understanding of basic construction principles and processes.
