Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to join a prominent industrial estate client based in Suleja, Abuja. This is a crucial role for a professional dedicated to upholding the highest standards of occupational health and safety within a dynamic industrial setting. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with local regulations and international best practices. You will be responsible for fostering a proactive safety culture, conducting risk assessments, and delivering comprehensive safety training to all personnel. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies, procedures, and systems in line with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Conduct regular risk assessments, hazard identification, and safety audits across the industrial estate, recommending and implementing corrective actions.
- Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and developing preventative strategies.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to management and employees on all HSE matters, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
- Organize and deliver engaging safety training programs and inductions for new hires, contractors, and existing staff.
- Ensure all safety equipment is properly maintained, inspected, and readily available for use.
- Prepare and submit accurate HSE reports, including incident statistics, performance metrics, and compliance status to management.
- Liaise with external regulatory bodies, emergency services, and other stakeholders on health and safety issues.
- Promote a strong safety culture through awareness campaigns, safety meetings, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Monitor environmental compliance, including waste management and pollution control, within the industrial estate.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Nigerian HSE regulations (e.g., Factories Act, OSHA) and international standards (e.g., ISO 45001, ISO 14001).
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in conducting risk assessments and incident investigations.
- Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent HSE certification.
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Safety Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- Membership in a recognized professional safety body (e.g., IOSH, ISPON).
- First Aid and Fire Safety certifications.
