Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy commercial vehicles (e.g., articulated trucks, trailers) for long-distance routes across Kenya.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, ensuring all systems are operational and roadworthy.
- Load and unload cargo safely, securing it properly to prevent damage during transit.
- Adhere strictly to all national and local traffic laws, transportation regulations, and company safety policies.
- Maintain accurate logbooks, delivery records, and all necessary documentation for each trip.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, logistics managers, and clients regarding delivery status and any unforeseen delays or issues.
- Perform minor roadside repairs and routine maintenance checks as needed.
- Manage fuel consumption efficiently and report any vehicle malfunctions or defects promptly.
- Represent the company professionally and courteously at all times.
- Ensure timely delivery of goods while prioritizing safety and compliance.
Required Skills
- Valid Class BCE/CE driving license with a clean driving record.
- Minimum of 3 years of verifiable experience as a Heavy Commercial Vehicle Driver, preferably in long-distance logistics.
- Proven knowledge of Kenyan road networks and major routes.
- Strong understanding of vehicle mechanics and ability to perform basic vehicle maintenance.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively on long journeys.
- High level of integrity, reliability, and punctuality.
- Proficiency in English and Swahili (both written and spoken).
- Sound knowledge of health and safety regulations, particularly in cargo handling and road safety.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate of Good Conduct.
- Additional training in defensive driving or advanced road safety.
- Experience with GPS navigation systems and electronic logbooks.
- Familiarity with various types of cargo, including hazardous materials (with appropriate certification).
- Post-secondary education or vocational training in logistics or automotive mechanics.
