We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to join one of our esteemed clients, operating a large industrial estate in Abuja, FCT. This professional role is crucial for maintaining a safe, healthy, and environmentally compliant working environment across various industrial operations. As the Health & Safety Officer, you will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring robust safety policies and procedures that align with national and international standards. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and enforce comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures in line with national regulations (e.g., Factories Act, OSHA Nigeria) and international best practices.
- Conduct regular and thorough risk assessments, hazard identification, and safety audits across the industrial estate's diverse operations.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
- Organize and deliver engaging safety training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors, covering topics such as emergency procedures, safe work practices, and equipment operation.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental, health, and safety legislation and maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Prepare and present detailed H&S reports to management, outlining performance, compliance status, and improvement recommendations.
- Manage the maintenance and inspection of safety equipment, fire suppression systems, and emergency response tools.
- Act as a primary point of contact for regulatory bodies during inspections and ensure all necessary permits and licenses are up-to-date.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through awareness campaigns, safety committees, and continuous communication.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of Nigerian occupational health and safety laws and regulations.
- Excellent understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard control.
- Proficiency in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, HSE Professional Certificate).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Membership in a recognized professional safety organization (e.g., ISPON, NCSN).
- Experience with ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management System).
- First Aid and CPR certification.
