Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and analyze clinical specimens (blood, urine, tissue, etc.) according to established protocols and laboratory procedures.
- Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests across various departments including hematology, chemistry, microbiology, serology, and immunology.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain sophisticated laboratory equipment and instrumentation, ensuring optimal performance and troubleshooting minor issues.
- Adhere strictly to quality control procedures, participate in proficiency testing programs, and document all quality assurance activities.
- Accurately document, interpret, and report test results using Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) in a timely manner.
- Monitor and manage inventory levels of reagents, supplies, and consumables, assisting with ordering and stocking as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment, strictly adhering to all institutional and regulatory safety guidelines and infection control protocols.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues, nurses, and physicians regarding specimen status, test results, and any critical findings.
- Participate actively in ongoing training sessions, professional development programs, and competency assessments to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Assist in the validation of new testing methods and equipment as required.
Required Skills
- Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) or a related science field from an accredited program.
- Eligibility for or current certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by ASCP, AMT, or an equivalent recognized credentialing agency.
- Fundamental understanding of laboratory safety principles, universal precautions, and waste disposal procedures.
- Exceptional attention to detail, precision, and accuracy in all laboratory tasks and data entry.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced setting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for clear interaction with team members and healthcare professionals.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- A demonstrated commitment to maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality (HIPAA compliance).
Preferred Qualifications
- Current active MLT certification (ASCP or AMT).
- Completion of an accredited clinical laboratory externship or internship program.
- Familiarity with specific Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) or Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems.
- Basic aptitude for troubleshooting technical issues with laboratory instrumentation.
- Previous experience working in a team-oriented healthcare or laboratory environment.
