Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) management systems and procedures specific to industrial operations.
- Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards, assess risks, and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure full compliance with local and international HSE regulations, standards, and company policies.
- Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, determine root causes, and implement preventive measures.
- Develop and deliver HSE training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors, fostering a strong safety culture.
- Monitor and report on HSE performance metrics, recommending improvements where necessary.
- Manage emergency preparedness plans and procedures, including regular drills and response coordination.
- Maintain accurate records of HSE activities, incidents, training, and compliance documentation.
- Advise management on HSE-related issues and regulatory changes.
- Oversee the proper use, maintenance, and inspection of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety equipment.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Nigerian HSE regulations and international safety standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
- Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard identification.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to conduct effective incident investigations and root cause analysis.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Certification in HSE (e.g., NEBOSH IGC, ISPON, OSHA).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Industrial Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
- Membership in a recognized professional safety organization (e.g., ISPON, IOSH).
- Experience with HSE management software.
