Job Description
This role requires a proactive and experienced Health & Safety Officer to champion a culture of safety and compliance within a bustling industrial estate environment in Wuse 2, Abuja. As a critical member of our client’s operational team, you will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety policies and procedures, ensuring adherence to national regulations and international best practices. Your primary objective will be to safeguard the well-being of all personnel, prevent accidents, and minimize occupational hazards across various industrial operations. You will conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits, identifying potential hazards and recommending corrective actions. Furthermore, you will be responsible for developing and delivering comprehensive safety training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors, raising awareness and promoting safe work practices. Incident investigation and root cause analysis will also be key aspects of your role, requiring thorough documentation and the implementation of preventive measures to avoid recurrence. The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of industrial safety protocols, including machinery safety, fire prevention, chemical handling, and emergency response planning. You will act as a principal advisor on all health and safety matters, collaborating closely with management and employees to build a robust safety management system that drives continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor health and safety policies and procedures in accordance with national regulations (e.g., Factories Act) and international standards (e.g., ISO 45001).
- Conduct regular risk assessments, hazard identification, and safety audits across the industrial estate.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near misses, performing root cause analysis and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
- Develop and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation and corporate standards.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training, and emergency drills.
- Oversee the proper use, maintenance, and inspection of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Coordinate emergency response procedures, including fire drills and first aid provisions.
- Advise management on health and safety best practices and improvements.
- Promote a strong safety culture through awareness campaigns and active engagement.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
- Proven experience in risk assessment, hazard identification, and incident investigation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of delivering effective training.
- Proficiency in developing and implementing safety management systems.
- Ability to conduct thorough site inspections and safety audits.
