Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Risk and Compliance Officer to join our dedicated team in Maputo. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in safeguarding Millennium bim’s operations by ensuring strict adherence to all internal policies, as well as local and international regulatory frameworks related to banking and financial services. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying, assessing, monitoring, and reporting on various risks, including operational, financial, and reputational risks, while also driving a culture of compliance across all business units. This position requires a meticulous individual with a strong understanding of financial regulations, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex information clearly and effectively to stakeholders at all levels. You will play a vital part in maintaining our reputation for integrity and trustworthiness, contributing directly to the bank’s stability and sustainable growth in a dynamic financial landscape. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain the bank's risk management framework, policies, and procedures in alignment with regulatory requirements and international best practices.
- Conduct regular comprehensive risk assessments across all business functions to identify potential vulnerabilities, evaluate their impact, and recommend robust mitigation strategies.
- Monitor adherence to all applicable laws, regulations (e.g., AML/CFT, data protection, prudential regulations), and internal policies, conducting proactive compliance checks and reviews.
- Prepare comprehensive and insightful risk and compliance reports for senior management, the Board, and regulatory bodies, highlighting key findings, emerging trends, and proposed remediation actions.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to various departments on complex risk and compliance matters, fostering a strong risk-aware and compliance-focused culture throughout the organization.
- Investigate and report on any identified compliance breaches or incidents, recommending effective corrective actions and sustainable process improvements to prevent recurrence.
- Stay abreast of changes in the regulatory landscape, market conditions, and industry best practices, ensuring timely adaptation of internal controls, policies, and training programs.
- Facilitate and deliver engaging training programs on risk management and compliance topics to enhance employee awareness, knowledge, and adherence to established protocols.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Law, Business Administration, Economics, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in risk management or compliance within the banking or financial services sector.
- In-depth knowledge of Mozambican banking regulations, anti-money laundering (AML), and counter-financing of terrorism (CFT) laws, as well as international financial crime standards.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking capabilities, with a keen eye for detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with full professional proficiency in both English and Portuguese.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and experience with data analysis tools.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications
- Postgraduate qualification (e.g., MBA, Master's in Law or Finance) or a professional certification in Risk Management (e.g., FRM, PRM) or Compliance (e.g., CAMS, ICA, CCEP).
- Experience with GRC (Governance, Risk, and Compliance) software solutions and risk management methodologies.
- Proven ability to lead projects, drive initiatives, and influence stakeholders across different organizational levels.
- Understanding of operational risk management frameworks and internal audit principles.
