Job Description

As a Logistics and Fleet Manager at Continental AG in Hannover, you will play a pivotal role in optimizing our supply chain efficiency and managing our company’s diverse fleet of vehicles. This critical position involves overseeing all aspects of logistics operations, from inbound material flow to outbound distribution, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of goods across our intricate network. You will be responsible for the strategic planning, execution, and optimization of our fleet, including procurement, maintenance scheduling, route optimization, fuel management, and strict adherence to regulatory compliance. Your leadership will be essential in driving continuous improvement initiatives, implementing industry best practices, and leveraging cutting-edge technology to enhance operational performance and reduce costs. This role requires a dynamic individual with a strong analytical mindset, exceptional organizational skills, and a proven track record in logistics and fleet management within a large, complex organization, preferably within the automotive or manufacturing sector. You will be instrumental in ensuring that our logistics infrastructure robustly supports Continental’s ambitious growth targets and operational excellence standards, contributing directly to our mission of advancing mobility solutions for a better future.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and continuously refine robust logistics strategies to optimize efficiency, reduce operational costs, and improve service levels.
  • Oversee the entire fleet management lifecycle, including strategic vehicle acquisition, comprehensive maintenance schedules, efficient fuel management, and environmentally sound disposal.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all national and international transportation regulations, safety standards, and internal company policies.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a dedicated team of logistics and fleet personnel, fostering a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous professional development.
  • Utilize advanced data analytics to monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), identify areas for operational improvement, and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Negotiate and manage contracts with suppliers, carriers, and service providers to ensure competitive pricing, optimal service levels, and strong partnerships.
  • Implement and manage state-of-the-art logistics and fleet management software systems (e.g., Transport Management Systems (TMS), Fleet Management Systems (FMS), SAP).
  • Develop and meticulously manage the departmental budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness, adherence to financial targets, and transparent reporting.
  • Collaborate extensively with internal departments such as production, sales, procurement, and R&D to seamlessly align logistics operations with overall business objectives and strategic goals.
  • Drive sustainability initiatives within fleet operations, including the exploration and implementation of alternative fuel vehicles, electric vehicle integration, and optimized routing to minimize environmental impact.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies for logistics and fleet operations.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in logistics and fleet management, ideally within the automotive or large-scale manufacturing sector.
  • Profound knowledge of supply chain principles, national and international transportation regulations, and best practices in fleet maintenance.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in logistics and fleet management software systems (e.g., SAP, TMS, FMS, route optimization tools).
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to motivate and develop teams.
  • Strong analytical mindset coupled with excellent problem-solving capabilities and decision-making under pressure.
  • Fluency in German and English, both written and spoken, is essential for effective internal and external communication.
  • Proven ability to manage complex budgets, achieve cost-efficiency targets, and deliver financial results.
  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a closely related technical field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant field such as Supply Chain Management or Engineering.
  • Professional certifications in logistics or supply chain management (e.g., CSCP, CTL, APICS).
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma methodologies, or other continuous improvement frameworks.
  • Proven project management experience, particularly in system implementation or process optimization.
  • Familiarity with the challenges and opportunities of electric vehicle fleet management and sustainable logistics practices.
