Job Description

Are you a passionate and experienced professional dedicated to making a tangible difference in humanitarian crises? Oxfam Novib is seeking a dynamic and driven Humanitarian Aid Coordinator to join our dedicated team in The Hague. This pivotal role is at the heart of our mission to provide effective, timely, and impactful humanitarian assistance to communities affected by conflicts, disasters, and other emergencies globally. You will be instrumental in coordinating our response efforts, ensuring programs are aligned with humanitarian principles, international standards, and Oxfam’s strategic objectives. This involves a blend of strategic planning, operational oversight, stakeholder engagement, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the humanitarian landscape, excellent project management skills, and a proven track record of working collaboratively in complex, fast-paced environments. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, development, and implementation of humanitarian aid projects from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to project timelines and budgets.
  • Monitor humanitarian situations globally, identify emerging crises, and contribute to rapid needs assessments and strategic response planning.
  • Coordinate with in-country teams, partner organizations, and external stakeholders (UN agencies, government bodies, other NGOs) to ensure integrated and effective program delivery.
  • Develop and maintain robust monitoring and evaluation frameworks to track project progress, outcomes, and impact, ensuring accountability to affected populations and donors.
  • Manage project budgets, financial reporting, and compliance with donor requirements and Oxfam Novib’s internal financial policies.
  • Contribute to the development of funding proposals and concept notes, articulating program strategies and expected results to potential donors.
  • Ensure all humanitarian responses are guided by humanitarian principles (humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence) and adhere to global best practices (e.g., Sphere Standards).
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and capacity building for field staff and partners on humanitarian program management and technical standards.
  • Represent Oxfam Novib in relevant humanitarian coordination forums, clusters, and working groups at national and international levels.
  • Identify risks and challenges within humanitarian operations and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports for internal stakeholders, donors, and external partners.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in humanitarian aid or international development, with at least 2 years in a coordination or management role.
  • Demonstrated experience in project cycle management, including proposal development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Strong understanding of humanitarian principles, international humanitarian law, and global humanitarian standards (e.g., Sphere, CHS).
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in multicultural and complex environments.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, financial reporting, and ensure compliance with donor regulations.
  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to rapidly changing humanitarian contexts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Humanitarian Action, International Development, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Dutch or another relevant language (e.g., French, Arabic, Spanish).
  • Experience working in diverse geographical contexts and in conflict-affected areas.
  • Familiarity with Oxfam's mission, values, and programming approaches.
  • Knowledge of specific technical areas such as WASH, Food Security, or Protection in emergencies.
