Key Responsibilities
- Conduct door-to-door visits to households to identify health needs and provide basic health education.
- Organize and participate in community health campaigns, workshops, and awareness programs.
- Collect and maintain accurate data on household health status, prevalent diseases, and service utilization.
- Refer individuals and families to appropriate health facilities and social services, and follow up on referrals.
- Monitor adherence to treatment plans for common conditions and provide support for chronic disease management.
- Promote maternal and child health, including immunization, nutrition, and family planning.
- Educate communities on sanitation, hygiene, and safe water practices to prevent waterborne diseases.
- Collaborate with local leaders, community groups, and healthcare providers to strengthen health initiatives.
- Assist in the distribution of health-related supplies and educational materials.
- Document all activities and contribute to regular reporting on community health progress.
Required Skills
- Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a minimum aggregate of D+ (plus)
- Certificate in Community Health Assistant or a related field from a recognized institution (e.g., Kenya Medical Training College or equivalent)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse community members.
- Excellent empathy and cultural sensitivity.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in challenging community settings.
- Basic knowledge of public health principles and common health issues.
- Proficiency in Swahili and English (both written and spoken).
- Basic computer literacy for data entry and reporting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous volunteer experience in community health, social work, or related fields.
- Familiarity with the local Kilifi dialect.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Experience in data collection using mobile health applications.
