Career.supersecrets is actively seeking an experienced and highly motivated Health & Safety Officer to join our client’s dynamic team, operating within a prominent industrial estate in Mararaba, Abuja. As a Health & Safety Officer, you will be instrumental in ensuring compliance with local and international safety standards, identifying potential hazards, and developing preventative strategies across diverse industrial operations. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor occupational health and safety policies and procedures in accordance with national and international standards.
- Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses, preparing detailed reports and recommending corrective and preventative actions.
- Organize and conduct safety training programs and awareness campaigns for all employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training, and compliance activities.
- Advise management on safety-related issues, including legislative changes and best practices.
- Collaborate with various departments to integrate safety into daily operations and project planning.
- Oversee the proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Prepare and present regular safety performance reports to management.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of Nigerian occupational health and safety regulations and international standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and incident investigations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional certification such as NEBOSH IGC, ISPON, or equivalent.
- Experience with safety management systems implementation.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
