Job Description

We are actively seeking a highly motivated and experienced Chartered Accountant, specifically holding the esteemed Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) qualification, to join our robust and dynamic finance team at Millennium BIM in Maputo, Mozambique. This pivotal role requires an individual with a deep and comprehensive understanding of financial principles, international accounting standards (IFRS), and stringent regulatory compliance, particularly within a dynamic, complex, and fast-paced banking environment. The successful candidate will be instrumental in overseeing critical financial operations, meticulously ensuring the accuracy and unimpeachable integrity of our financial reporting, and contributing significantly to our strategic financial planning initiatives that drive the bank’s future. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in strict accordance with IFRS and local regulatory requirements.
  • Manage and coordinate external audits, acting as the primary liaison between the company and external auditors, ensuring timely and effective completion.
  • Ensure comprehensive compliance with all relevant financial regulations, tax laws, and corporate governance standards applicable in Mozambique.
  • Oversee general ledger operations, ensuring all financial transactions are accurately recorded, reconciled, and properly documented.
  • Conduct in-depth financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting to provide strategic insights and support informed decision-making.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor robust internal controls to safeguard company assets, ensure data integrity, and minimize financial risks.
  • Provide expert financial advice and support to various internal departments, including treasury, operations, and risk management.
  • Prepare and submit precise and timely regulatory reports to the Bank of Mozambique and other relevant governmental authorities.
  • Lead, mentor, and train junior accounting staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and professional development.
  • Stay abreast of changes in international accounting standards, tax laws, and financial regulations to ensure ongoing compliance and best practices.

Required Skills

  • ICAN (Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria) qualification is mandatory.
  • Minimum of 4 years of proven post-qualification experience in financial accounting, reporting, and analysis.
  • Strong knowledge and practical application of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Proficiency in enterprise-level accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar ERP systems) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical decision-making abilities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and unwavering commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly, concisely, and effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken) is essential for international reporting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a closely related field.
  • Prior experience working specifically within the banking or financial services sector.
  • In-depth knowledge of Mozambican tax laws and local financial regulations.
  • Fluency in Portuguese (written and spoken) to facilitate local communication and collaboration.
  • Experience with financial modeling and business intelligence tools.
