Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Health & Safety Officer to join our team, focusing on ensuring a safe working environment within a prominent industrial estate in Jabi Lake Mall, Abuja. This pivotal role requires a seasoned professional with a deep understanding of occupational health and safety regulations, risk management, and emergency preparedness. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring safety programs to prevent accidents, injuries, and illnesses. You will conduct regular site inspections, enforce compliance with local and international safety standards, and lead safety training initiatives for all personnel. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures in line with national and international standards.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of industrial facilities, machinery, and work practices to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Organize and deliver engaging safety training programs and workshops for employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with all relevant environmental, health, and safety legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and present detailed H&S reports, including incident statistics, audit findings, and performance metrics, to management.
- Manage emergency response plans, including fire safety, first aid, and evacuation procedures, conducting regular drills.
- Advise management on best practices for risk mitigation and continuous improvement in occupational health and safety.
- Oversee the proper storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Nigerian occupational health and safety regulations (e.g., Factories Act, OSHA).
- Strong understanding of risk assessment, hazard identification, and control measures.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent certification.
- Membership in relevant professional safety organizations (e.g., ISPON).
- Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
- First Aid and Fire Safety certification.
