Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Medical Officer to join our dynamic team at St Vincent’s Private Hospital Sydney. This is an exceptional opportunity for a talented medical professional to contribute to a leading healthcare institution known for its commitment to patient-centered care, clinical excellence, and innovation. As a Medical Officer, you will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive medical care to our patients, working closely with specialist consultants, nursing staff, and allied health professionals. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of patients, ensuring the highest standards of clinical practice are maintained. This role demands excellent diagnostic abilities, strong communication skills, and a proactive approach to patient care. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality, evidence-based medical care to private hospital patients under the supervision of specialist consultants.
  • Conduct daily ward rounds, assess patient conditions, and accurately document findings in patient medical records.
  • Order and interpret investigations, including pathology and radiology, and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
  • Respond promptly to medical emergencies and deteriorating patient conditions, initiating appropriate management.
  • Facilitate patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, ensuring comprehensive handover and follow-up plans.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and their families, providing clear explanations of diagnoses, treatments, and prognoses.
  • Actively participate in clinical meetings, case conferences, and contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate effectively with nursing staff, allied health professionals, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Adhere strictly to hospital policies, procedures, and professional ethical standards.
  • Participate in ongoing medical education and professional development activities.

Required Skills

  • Full registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) as a Medical Practitioner.
  • Demonstrated post-graduate experience as a Medical Officer, preferably in a hospital setting.
  • Excellent clinical assessment, diagnostic, and management skills.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork abilities.
  • Proficiency in basic life support and advanced cardiac life support (ALS) certification.
  • Sound knowledge of medical ethics and professional conduct.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Commitment to patient safety and quality improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fellowship or actively working towards a Fellowship of a relevant specialist college (e.g., RACP, RACGP, ACEM).
  • Experience in a private hospital setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in a range of medical specialties (e.g., General Medicine, Surgery, Emergency Medicine).
  • Participation in clinical research or audit activities.
  • Formal leadership or teaching experience.
