Job Description

Are you an experienced Health & Safety professional with a passion for cultivating robust safety cultures within industrial environments? Career.supersecrets is seeking a dedicated and proactive Health & Safety Officer to join one of our esteemed clients, a prominent industrial facility located in Zuba, Abuja. This pivotal role involves overseeing and implementing comprehensive health and safety programs across the industrial estate, ensuring full compliance with national regulations and international best practices. You will be instrumental in identifying potential hazards, mitigating risks, and promoting a proactive safety mindset among all employees and contractors. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in industrial safety, excellent communication skills, and the ability to drive continuous improvement in safety performance. This is an exciting opportunity to make a tangible impact on the well-being of a large workforce and contribute significantly to operational efficiency and compliance. We are looking for a professional who can not only manage compliance but also inspire a genuine culture of safety from the ground up, making the industrial estate a benchmark for workplace safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor robust Health & Safety policies and procedures in line with national and international standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance.
  • Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, preparing detailed reports and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Organize and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for employees, management, and contractors.
  • Ensure all safety equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and readily available for use.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies, preparing for and managing external safety audits and inspections.
  • Maintain accurate records of all safety-related documentation, including training, incidents, and inspections.
  • Lead emergency response planning and drills, ensuring preparedness for various scenarios.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through awareness campaigns, safety committees, and employee engagement initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, preferably within an industrial or manufacturing setting.
  • Strong knowledge of Nigerian occupational health and safety regulations and international standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
  • Excellent risk assessment and hazard identification abilities.
  • Proficiency in conducting safety audits and incident investigations.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proficiency in relevant safety management software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications such as NEBOSH IGC, ISPON, or equivalent.
  • Experience with safety management systems implementation (e.g., ISO 45001).
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Fluency in local languages (e.g., Hausa) in addition to English.
