Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently transport goods, materials, and equipment to designated locations within Lagos and potentially surrounding areas, adhering to schedules.
- Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, road signs, and company driving policies and procedures to ensure maximum safety.
- Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, ensuring they are in optimal working condition and reporting any defects.
- Report any mechanical issues, accidents, traffic violations, or incidents promptly and accurately to the appropriate supervisor.
- Assist with the careful loading and unloading of goods, ensuring proper securing, handling, and placement to prevent damage during transit.
- Maintain accurate daily logs, trip records, and delivery documentation, including mileage, fuel consumption, and precise delivery times.
- Verify the accuracy of cargo against delivery notes and obtain necessary signatures or proof of delivery upon completion.
- Ensure the cleanliness and general maintenance of the assigned vehicle, both interior and exterior.
- Communicate effectively and courteously with dispatch, clients, and team members, providing updates on delivery status or potential delays.
- Represent the company professionally and courteously at all times, maintaining a positive image with clients and the public.
Required Skills
- Valid Nigerian Driver's License (Class G or higher)
- Minimum of 3 years of professional driving experience, preferably in a logistics or commercial setting
- Excellent knowledge of Lagos road networks, routes, and traffic regulations
- Proven track record of safe driving practices and a clean driving record
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a professional demeanor
- Ability to read and understand maps or use GPS navigation systems effectively
- Physical fitness to assist with loading/unloading and handle minor vehicle maintenance tasks
- High level of reliability, punctuality, and meticulous attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience driving various types of commercial vehicles (e.g., vans, light trucks)
- Certificate in Defensive Driving or similar road safety training programs
- Basic mechanical knowledge for minor vehicle troubleshooting and maintenance checks
- First Aid and CPR certification is a plus
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some weekends or extended shifts, if required
