Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to join one of our prominent industrial clients located within an industrial estate in Asokoro, Abuja. This professional role is crucial for maintaining a robust safety culture and ensuring full compliance with all local and international occupational health and safety regulations. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring safety programs, conducting risk assessments, and promoting best practices across the facility. You will work proactively to identify potential hazards, recommend corrective actions, and foster a preventative mindset among all employees and contractors. This position demands a proactive individual with a strong understanding of industrial safety protocols, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement in workplace safety.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures in line with national and international standards.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Perform detailed risk assessments for all operational activities and develop mitigation strategies.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
- Organize and deliver safety training sessions for employees and contractors on various H&S topics.
- Maintain accurate records of all safety-related documentation, including incidents, audits, training, and compliance reports.
- Ensure the availability and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Liaise with regulatory bodies and external safety consultants as required.
- Advise management on health and safety matters and provide guidance on new legislation and best practices.
- Prepare and present regular H&S performance reports to management.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for hazard identification and risk assessment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and presentation abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to conduct effective safety training programs.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Health, Engineering, or a related field.
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent recognized safety qualification.
- Professional certification such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health).
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Experience with safety management software.
