Job Description

Career.supersecrets is seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Budget Officer to join our growing team in Damaturu, Yobe. This critical role involves the comprehensive management, preparation, and monitoring of organizational budgets, ensuring fiscal responsibility and strategic alignment with our clients’ objectives. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing budget proposals, analyzing financial data, forecasting expenditures, and ensuring compliance with relevant financial regulations and internal policies. You will work closely with various departments, providing expert financial guidance and actionable insights to support decision-making processes. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation of annual, quarterly, and revised budget estimates in collaboration with departmental heads and senior management.
  • Monitor budget performance regularly, identifying variances and trends, and providing detailed reports and explanations for deviations.
  • Develop and implement robust budget control measures to ensure spending remains within approved limits.
  • Prepare comprehensive financial reports, including budget versus actuals, financial forecasts, and ad-hoc analysis for stakeholders.
  • Conduct thorough financial analysis to support strategic planning and resource allocation decisions.
  • Ensure strict adherence to financial regulations, accounting standards, and internal budgetary policies.
  • Provide training and support to departmental staff on budget preparation, monitoring, and reporting procedures.
  • Evaluate funding requests and proposals, assessing financial viability and alignment with strategic priorities.
  • Utilize advanced budgeting software and financial tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy in budget management.
  • Assist in the development and continuous improvement of financial systems and processes.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in budgeting, financial analysis, or financial management.
  • Strong proficiency in financial modeling, forecasting, and data analysis.
  • Expertise in using accounting software and advanced Excel functionalities.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial regulations, accounting principles (IFRS/GAS), and internal control systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Finance, Business Administration (MBA), or a related discipline.
  • Professional certification such as ICAN, ACCA, CIMA, or CPA.
  • Experience working in a consultancy, government agency, or large non-profit organization.
  • Familiarity with public sector budgeting processes and financial management systems.
  • Project management skills and experience.
