Key Responsibilities
- Perform complex laboratory analyses on patient samples (e.g., blood, urine, tissue) using a variety of automated and manual techniques.
- Interpret and validate laboratory results, escalating critical findings to appropriate clinical staff.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot highly sophisticated laboratory instrumentation.
- Adhere strictly to all laboratory safety protocols, quality control measures, and accreditation standards (e.g., ISO 15189, UKAS).
- Participate in internal and external quality assurance schemes to ensure accuracy and reliability of results.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of all tests performed, results, and quality control data.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of laboratory services and processes.
- Collaborate effectively with pathologists, clinicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
- Engage in continuous professional development and maintain HCPC registration.
Required Skills
- BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science or equivalent, accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS).
- Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Biomedical Scientist.
- Proven experience working in an accredited diagnostic laboratory.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Specialist portfolio in a relevant discipline (e.g., Haematology, Microbiology, Clinical Biochemistry).
- MSc in Biomedical Science or a related field.
