Career.supersecrets is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Port Operations Supervisor to join our dynamic team in Deira, Dubai. This critical role is at the forefront of our maritime operations, ensuring the efficient, safe, and compliant movement of cargo and vessels within our designated port areas. As a Port Operations Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of port activities, from coordinating ship arrivals and departures to managing cargo loading, unloading, and storage. Your leadership will be vital in optimising workflow, adhering to international shipping regulations, and maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational excellence. Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate daily port operations, including vessel berthing/unberthing, cargo handling (loading, unloading, transhipment), and storage activities.
- Ensure strict adherence to all local and international maritime regulations, port authority guidelines, safety protocols, and environmental standards.
- Liaise effectively with shipping agents, customs officials, stevedoring companies, internal logistics teams, and other port stakeholders to ensure seamless and timely operations.
- Monitor equipment utilization, track operational efficiency, and proactively identify areas for process improvement, cost reduction, and enhanced productivity.
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of port operatives, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous professional development.
- Prepare comprehensive operational reports, track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to turnaround times, safety, and efficiency, and present findings to senior management.
- Respond promptly and effectively to operational incidents, emergencies, and customer queries, implementing swift and practical solutions to minimise disruption.
- Conduct regular inspections of facilities, equipment, and work areas to ensure optimal condition and compliance with safety standards.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in port operations, maritime logistics, or a similar supervisory role.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management capabilities.
- In-depth knowledge of international shipping regulations (e.g., IMO, SOLAS) and local port procedures in Dubai.
- Proficiency in cargo handling techniques, vessel operations, and terminal management systems.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced port environment.
- Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) best practices.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Maritime Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Relevant certifications in port operations, dangerous goods handling, or safety management.
- Proficiency in Arabic or other relevant regional languages.
- Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) software and port operating systems.
