Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy-duty trucks for long-haul routes across Western Cape and beyond.
- Perform pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment.
- Load and unload goods, or oversee loading/unloading, ensuring proper weight distribution and securement.
- Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, company policies, and Department of Transport regulations.
- Maintain accurate logbooks, delivery receipts, and all required documentation electronically or manually.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, clients, and other team members regarding schedules, delays, and issues.
- Plan routes and meet delivery schedules in a timely and efficient manner.
- Inspect vehicles for mechanical items and safety issues and perform preventative maintenance.
- Comply with all health and safety regulations, including those related to hazardous materials if applicable.
- Represent the company and its clients professionally at all times.
Required Skills
- Valid Code EC (or equivalent) driver's license with PDP (Professional Driving Permit)
- Proven experience as a long-haul truck driver
- Excellent driving record with no major violations
- Strong knowledge of road safety regulations and truck maintenance
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Good physical condition and stamina to handle long driving hours and various weather conditions
- Basic mechanical aptitude for minor roadside repairs
- Ability to complete paperwork accurately and efficiently
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with refrigerated units or specialized cargo
- Familiarity with GPS navigation systems and electronic logging devices (ELDs)
- First Aid and Fire Fighting certification
- Clear communication skills in English and Afrikaans
- Proven track record of safe and efficient delivery
