This professional role requires a proactive individual with a deep understanding of occupational health and safety principles, regulatory compliance, and risk management within an industrial environment. As a Health & Safety Officer, you will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive safety programs to ensure a secure and healthy workplace for all personnel, contractors, and visitors within the industrial estate. This is not merely a compliance role; we are looking for a visionary who can champion a positive safety culture, drive continuous improvement, and proactively identify and mitigate potential hazards before they become incidents.
You will be responsible for conducting thorough risk assessments across various industrial operations, from manufacturing processes to logistics and machinery handling, ensuring all activities adhere to local and international safety standards. A significant part of your role will involve leading engaging safety training sessions, educating employees on best practices, emergency procedures, and the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE). You will also be the primary point of contact for all health and safety-related inquiries and concerns, fostering an open communication channel where safety feedback is encouraged and acted upon. The successful candidate will possess a strong analytical mind, capable of investigating incidents thoroughly, determining root causes, and implementing effective corrective and preventive actions. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a tangible impact on the well-being of a large workforce and contribute to the operational excellence of a dynamic industrial setting.

- Ensure strict compliance with all relevant occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, and industry best practices.
- Organize and deliver engaging safety training sessions for employees, contractors, and management on topics such as emergency preparedness, fire safety, confined space entry, working at height, and safe machinery operation.
- Lead incident investigations, including near-misses, accidents, and occupational illnesses, to determine root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Maintain accurate records of H&S incidents, inspections, training, and compliance activities, preparing detailed reports for management.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards, non-compliance, and areas for improvement, documenting findings and tracking resolutions.
- Advise management on health and safety matters, fostering a proactive safety culture throughout the industrial estate.
- Develop and manage emergency response plans, ensuring regular drills and preparedness for various scenarios.
- Oversee the proper use, maintenance, and replenishment of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Collaborate with internal departments and external stakeholders to promote a safe working environment and ensure contractor compliance with H&S requirements.
Required Skills
- Professional certification in Occupational Health & Safety (e.g., NEBOSH IGC, OSHA, IOSH Managing Safely).
- Proven experience in developing, implementing, and managing Health & Safety programs in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Thorough knowledge of Nigerian Occupational Health & Safety regulations and relevant international standards.
- Strong ability to conduct risk assessments, hazard identification, and incident investigations.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to effectively train staff and interact with all levels of an organization.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and H&S management software.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
