Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough and accurate eye examinations for a diverse patient base, including children and adults.
- Diagnose and manage various ocular conditions, including glaucoma, cataracts, and retinal disorders.
- Prescribe and dispense appropriate corrective lenses (spectacles and contact lenses) based on patient needs.
- Provide clear, concise, and empathetic explanations of findings, diagnoses, and treatment plans to patients.
- Refer patients to ophthalmologists or other healthcare professionals when necessary, ensuring seamless care pathways.
- Educate patients on general eye health, preventative care, and the correct use and maintenance of contact lenses.
- Maintain meticulous patient records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GOC guidelines and data protection regulations.
- Operate and interpret results from advanced diagnostic equipment such as OCT, fundus cameras, and visual field analysers.
- Actively participate in clinical discussions, team meetings, and contribute to the overall enhancement of practice standards.
- Adhere to all professional standards, ethical guidelines, and company policies.
Required Skills
- Registered with the General Optical Council (GOC)
- BSc (Hons) in Optometry or equivalent recognised qualification
- Strong clinical acumen and diagnostic skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-first approach
- Proficiency in performing comprehensive eye examinations for all age groups
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Commitment to continuous professional development (CPD)
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience as a practising Optometrist
- Experience with specialist clinics (e.g., dry eye, low vision, myopia management)
- Independent Prescribing (IP) qualification
- Experience in supervising pre-registration optometrists or mentoring junior colleagues
- Familiarity with various practice management software systems
