Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Controls Engineer to join a leading engineering team in Bristol. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in the design, development, and implementation of sophisticated control systems for automated machinery and industrial processes. Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement robust control systems and software for automated equipment and industrial processes, adhering to industry best practices and standards.
- Develop, program, and debug PLC, HMI, and SCADA applications (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell, Mitsubishi, Allen-Bradley).
- Create detailed electrical schematics, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams using CAD software.
- Conduct Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) to ensure systems meet specifications.
- Perform on-site commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimization of control systems.
- Provide technical support and training to clients and operational staff.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including specifications, design documents, and operational manuals.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, project managers, and clients.
- Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety regulations and industry standards.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in PLC programming (Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000, etc.)
- Experience with HMI/SCADA system development (WinCC, Ignition, FactoryTalk View)
- Strong understanding of industrial networking protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus)
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and P&IDs
- Hands-on experience with control panel design and wiring
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
- Proficiency in CAD software for electrical design (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical)
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
- Experience with robotics integration and programming (e.g., KUKA, Fanuc, ABB)
- Knowledge of functional safety standards (e.g., IEC 61508, ISO 13849)
- Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools
- Experience in specific industries such as aerospace, manufacturing, or automotive
- Ability to travel to client sites as required
