Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor occupational health and safety policies and procedures in line with national and international standards.
- Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and inspections across the industrial estate to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
- Organize and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for all levels of staff, ensuring awareness and competence in health and safety practices.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training, and regulatory documentation.
- Ensure strict compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation and regulations (e.g., Factories Act, OSHA).
- Advise management on health and safety matters, including the implementation of new safety equipment and procedures.
- Coordinate with emergency services and internal teams for drills and actual emergency response.
- Promote a positive health and safety culture through communication, engagement, and visible leadership.
- Prepare and present regular reports on safety performance, trends, and compliance status to management.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of Nigerian occupational health and safety regulations and international standards (e.g., ISO 45001).
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in conducting risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations.
- Ability to develop and deliver engaging safety training programs.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent advanced certification.
- Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Knowledge of specific industrial hazards such as chemical handling, machinery safety, and confined spaces.
