Job Description
ActionAid Nigeria seeks a passionate and dedicated Social and Community Service Worker to join our team in Elekahia, Port Harcourt. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in implementing community development projects, providing support to vulnerable populations, and fostering positive social change. This role requires strong interpersonal skills, a deep understanding of community needs, and a commitment to empowering individuals and groups. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a similar role within a non-profit or community development setting. You will be responsible for coordinating community outreach activities, building relationships with local stakeholders, conducting needs assessments, and developing and implementing project plans aligned with ActionAid’s overall goals. Key Responsibilities
- Conducting community needs assessments and developing project proposals.
- Implementing community development projects, including training and capacity building initiatives.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with local stakeholders, including community leaders, government officials, and other NGOs.
- Monitoring and evaluating project progress and reporting on outcomes.
- Providing support and guidance to vulnerable populations, including women, children, and people with disabilities.
- Participating in advocacy and awareness campaigns to promote social justice and human rights.
- Preparing regular reports to the supervisor on project progress, challenges, and recommendations.
- Participating in team meetings and contributing to organizational strategy.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in community development or social work.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in report writing and data analysis.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience in conducting needs assessments and developing project proposals.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken).
- Knowledge of local communities and challenges in Port Harcourt.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Community Development, or a related field.
- Experience working with vulnerable populations.
- Experience with project cycle management.
- Knowledge of relevant government policies and programs.
- Experience working with international NGOs.
