Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy-duty trucks (e.g., rigid trucks, articulated vehicles) to transport a variety of goods to designated client locations.
- Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, ensuring all mechanical systems, tires, lights, and fluid levels are in optimal working order.
- Efficiently load and unload cargo, utilizing appropriate equipment and securing items meticulously to prevent damage or shifting during transit.
- Strictly adhere to all federal, state, and local traffic laws, as well as company safety policies and transportation regulations.
- Maintain accurate and detailed delivery logs, including mileage, fuel consumption, delivery times, and any incidents encountered.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with dispatchers, clients, warehouse personnel, and internal teams regarding delivery status, potential delays, and any operational issues.
- Ensure timely delivery of goods, meticulously following planned routes and schedules while adapting to unforeseen road conditions or traffic.
- Accurately handle all delivery documentation, including waybills, invoices, delivery notes, and obtaining necessary signatures.
- Promptly report any vehicle defects, mechanical issues, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to goods or property to management.
- Provide exceptional customer service during deliveries, representing Career.supersecrets with professionalism and courtesy.
- Assist with routine vehicle maintenance tasks and ensure the cleanliness of the truck cab and exterior.
Required Skills
- Valid Nigerian Class E (or equivalent heavy-duty commercial) Driver's License.
- Minimum of 36 months (3 years) of proven, verifiable experience as a truck driver, specifically in goods delivery within a logistics or distribution environment.
- Excellent knowledge of Lagos metropolitan road networks, expressways, and traffic regulations.
- Strong understanding of vehicle safety procedures, load securement techniques, and hazardous materials handling (if applicable).
- Ability to perform basic vehicle inspections, troubleshooting, and minor maintenance tasks.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- High level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality.
- Physical fitness to safely handle loading and unloading tasks, and long hours on the road.
- Clean driving record with no major traffic violations or accidents.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Defensive Driving certification or advanced driver training.
- Familiarity with GPS devices, digital logbooks, and route optimization software.
- Experience with different types of cargo, including perishable goods or oversized loads.
