Job Description

Career.supersecrets is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Legal Practitioner to join our growing team in Lafia, Nasarawa. This pivotal role involves providing comprehensive legal advice and representation to our organization, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations in Nigeria, particularly those pertaining to corporate governance, labour law, data protection, and contractual agreements. The successful candidate will be instrumental in safeguarding the company’s interests, mitigating risks, and supporting our strategic objectives.

As our in-house Legal Practitioner, you will be responsible for drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide array of legal documents, including client contracts, vendor agreements, partnership deeds, and internal policies. You will serve as the primary point of contact for all legal matters, offering expert guidance to various departments, from HR and operations to marketing and executive leadership. This role demands a proactive individual with a keen eye for detail, exceptional analytical skills, and a strong ethical compass. You will also be tasked with monitoring changes in legal frameworks and advising on necessary adjustments to company practices to maintain full compliance. Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate various legal documents, including service agreements, employment contracts, non-disclosure agreements, and partnership documents.
  • Provide accurate and timely legal advice to management and staff on a broad range of legal issues, including corporate law, labour law, intellectual property, and data protection.
  • Ensure the company's operations comply with all relevant Nigerian laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Conduct thorough legal research and analysis on complex legal matters affecting the business.
  • Represent the company in discussions, negotiations, and potential dispute resolutions with external parties, including clients, vendors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Develop and update internal legal policies and procedures to reflect changes in legislation and best practices.
  • Manage legal risks and develop strategies to minimize exposure, advising on risk management and compliance matters.
  • Liaise with external counsel when necessary and manage external legal services efficiently.
  • Stay abreast of legislative changes and judicial decisions that may impact the company and provide timely updates and recommendations.

Required Skills

  • Called to the Nigerian Bar with a valid practicing license.
  • Minimum of 4 years post-call experience in corporate law, commercial law, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of Nigerian corporate law, labour law, and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent legal research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in drafting clear, concise, and legally sound documents.
  • Exceptional negotiation and communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • High level of integrity and professional ethics.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working as in-house counsel for a corporate entity, consultancy, or recruitment firm.
  • Proficiency in additional Nigerian languages.
  • Strong understanding of data privacy laws (e.g., NDPR).
  • Experience with dispute resolution and litigation management.
