Job Description
Globus Maritime Services is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Maritime Safety Officer to join our growing team in Trans Ekulu, Enugu. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of maritime operations, complying with all relevant regulations, and contributing to the overall success of the company. This is a challenging and rewarding role requiring a strong understanding of maritime safety procedures, excellent communication skills, and a proactive approach to risk management. The ideal candidate will possess a strong work ethic, a commitment to safety excellence, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. You will be responsible for the development and implementation of safety procedures, conducting regular inspections and audits, preparing and presenting reports, and conducting safety training for company personnel. This role requires a deep understanding of international maritime regulations and best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive maritime safety management systems.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of vessels and maritime facilities.
- Investigate accidents and incidents, preparing comprehensive reports and recommendations.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs for personnel.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant international and national maritime regulations.
- Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure a safe and secure working environment.
- Prepare and submit regular safety reports to management.
- Manage safety documentation and records.
- Assist in emergency response procedures.
Required Skills
- In-depth knowledge of international maritime regulations (SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, etc.)
- Experience in conducting safety audits and inspections.
- Strong understanding of risk assessment and management principles.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent report writing skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Maritime Studies, Nautical Science, or a related field.
- Relevant professional certifications (e.g., Master Mariner, Chief Mate).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a maritime safety role.
- Experience working in a similar role in a maritime logistics or shipping company.
