Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently operate company vehicles (vans, light trucks, etc.) for the transportation and delivery of various goods.
- Adhere strictly to all national traffic laws, road safety regulations, and internal company driving policies at all times.
- Plan and execute the most efficient and timely routes for deliveries and collections within Lagos and specified areas.
- Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, ensuring they are in optimal, roadworthy condition.
- Promptly report any vehicle malfunctions, maintenance needs, accidents, or incidents to fleet management.
- Maintain meticulous and accurate records of deliveries, including mileage, fuel consumption, delivery times, and goods documentation.
- Assist with the careful loading and unloading of goods as required, ensuring proper handling, securing, and protection of cargo.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with dispatch, clients, and internal staff regarding delivery status, potential delays, and any issues encountered.
- Represent the company with the utmost professionalism, courtesy, and integrity when interacting with clients and the general public.
- Ensure the consistent cleanliness and perform basic routine maintenance checks of the assigned vehicle.
Required Skills
- Valid Nigerian Driver’s License (Class E, G, or other relevant commercial licenses) with a clean driving record.
- Minimum of 2 years of proven, verifiable experience as a commercial driver, preferably within a logistics or distribution setting.
- In-depth and practical knowledge of Lagos road networks, traffic patterns, and alternative routes.
- Strong understanding and commitment to vehicle safety and routine maintenance procedures.
- Proficiency in operating GPS devices and various navigation applications effectively.
- Good physical condition, stamina, and agility to handle long driving hours and assist with manual loading/unloading tasks.
- Exceptional level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) or its equivalent educational qualification.
- Completion of additional training programs or certifications in defensive driving, road safety, or logistics operations.
- Demonstrable experience operating a variety of different commercial vehicle types.
- Basic mechanical knowledge or troubleshooting skills for minor vehicle issues.
