Are you a compassionate and dedicated individual with a passion for elderly care? St Michael’s Residential and Nursing Home is looking for an experienced and Qualified Healthcare Assistant to join our friendly and professional team. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in providing high-quality, person-centred care to our residents, ensuring their comfort, dignity, and independence are always upheld. You will work closely with nurses and other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive care plans, assist with daily living activities, and monitor residents’ health and well-being. Key Responsibilities
- Assist residents with personal care tasks, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting, always maintaining their dignity and privacy.
- Support residents with mobility, transfers, and feeding, utilizing appropriate equipment and techniques.
- Monitor and record vital signs, fluid intake and output, and document any changes in residents' condition or behaviour, reporting concerns to the nursing staff.
- Help to create and maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for residents.
- Engage residents in social activities and provide companionship, promoting their emotional and psychological well-being.
- Assist with the administration of medication under the direct supervision of a qualified nurse, as per training and company policy.
- Communicate effectively and compassionately with residents, their families, and the wider care team.
- Adhere to all health and safety, safeguarding, and company policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date care records and documentation.
Required Skills
- NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care or equivalent qualification/experience
- Proven experience working in a care setting, preferably with older adults
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong observational and reporting abilities
- Empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to care for others
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic
- Basic IT literacy for documentation purposes
Preferred Qualifications
- NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care
- Experience in dementia care
- First Aid qualification
- Training in medication administration (desirable but not essential, full training provided)
