Job Description
JED Engineering Nigeria Limited is seeking a meticulous, proficient, and experienced Draughtsman to join our vibrant and forward-thinking team located in Lokoja, Kogi. This presents an exciting and challenging opportunity for a skilled professional to contribute significantly to a diverse array of engineering and construction projects that are vital to the region’s development. As a Draughtsman, you will assume a critical role in translating complex design concepts, detailed specifications, and engineering calculations into clear, precise, and actionable technical drawings and plans, primarily utilizing advanced Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software. Your output will directly support our team of accomplished engineers, architects, and project managers throughout all phases of project development, spanning from the initial conceptualization and feasibility studies to detailed design and final construction implementation. We are actively searching for an individual who possesses an exceptional eye for detail, a profound understanding of fundamental engineering and architectural principles, and a demonstrated ability to consistently produce accurate, unambiguous, and fully compliant drawings. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare comprehensive and detailed architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical drawings and plans using AutoCAD (2D and 3D) and other pertinent CAD software applications.
- Accurately interpret engineering sketches, design specifications, technical documentation, and complex calculations provided by engineers and architects to create precise and functional technical drawings.
- Ensure that all generated drawings strictly comply with relevant local and international industry standards, applicable building codes, safety regulations, and internal company specifications.
- Systematically revise and meticulously update existing drawings to accurately reflect design changes, modifications made during construction, or capture 'as-built' conditions post-completion.
- Engage in close and effective collaboration with project managers, civil engineers, structural engineers, architects, and other key stakeholders to ensure that design intent is precisely captured and communicated in all drawings.
- Establish and maintain a highly organized system for efficient filing, cataloging, and archiving of all project drawings, guaranteeing easy retrieval, comprehensive version control, and data integrity.
- Assist in the accurate calculation of material quantities and the compilation of detailed bills of materials (BOMs) directly derived from finalized technical drawings.
- Participate actively in site visits when deemed necessary to gather essential field information, verify existing conditions, or confirm critical measurements for drawing accuracy.
- Continuously research and stay abreast of the latest advancements in CAD technologies, modern drafting techniques, and evolving industry best practices to enhance departmental efficiency and quality.
Required Skills
- Exceptional proficiency in AutoCAD (2D and 3D) is absolutely mandatory.
- Solid understanding of fundamental drafting principles, standards, symbols, and conventions.
- Proven ability to accurately interpret complex engineering and architectural designs, blueprints, and technical specifications.
- Impeccable attention to detail and a commitment to producing highly accurate work.
- Strong organizational abilities and effective time management skills to handle multiple tasks concurrently.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills for team collaboration.
- Minimum of 3 years of demonstrable, hands-on experience as a Draughtsman within a reputable construction or engineering consultancy environment.
- Holder of a Higher National Diploma (HND) or Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Civil Engineering, Architecture, or an equivalent relevant technical field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in additional CAD or BIM (Building Information Modeling) software such as Revit, ArchiCAD, or SolidWorks.
- Working knowledge or experience with Geographical Information Systems (GIS) for site analysis.
- Familiarity with specific local building codes, planning regulations, and environmental standards pertinent to Nigeria.
