Job Description

Glasdon UK Limited is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Mechanical Fitter to join our dynamic manufacturing team in Blackpool, Lancashire. This pivotal role involves the assembly, installation, maintenance, and repair of a diverse range of mechanical components and systems crucial to our production processes and product lines. As a Mechanical Fitter, you will be instrumental in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our manufacturing machinery and the precise assembly of our renowned products, from robust street furniture to complex recycling units. You will interpret engineering drawings and specifications, fabricating and fitting parts with meticulous accuracy, and ensuring all work adheres to our stringent quality standards and safety regulations. This position requires a keen eye for detail, a strong aptitude for problem-solving, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You will be responsible for diagnostic fault-finding on mechanical equipment, carrying out preventative maintenance, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance our operational efficiency and product quality. Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain mechanical systems and components according to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on machinery, equipment, and production lines to ensure optimal performance and minimise downtime.
  • Diagnose mechanical faults, troubleshoot issues, and carry out effective repairs to restore functionality.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics to guide assembly and repair work.
  • Fabricate, modify, and fit mechanical parts using various hand and power tools, ensuring precise measurements and alignment.
  • Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations and company policies.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and product quality.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and parts used.
  • Collaborate with other team members, including engineers and production staff, to ensure seamless operations.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with a wide range of hand tools, power tools, and workshop machinery.
  • Ability to diagnose faults and perform effective repairs on mechanical systems.
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations within a manufacturing setting.
  • Excellent attention to detail and precision in workmanship.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Fabrication, or a related discipline.
  • Completed a recognised apprenticeship in Mechanical Fitting.
  • Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Basic welding or fabrication skills.
  • Forklift truck licence.
